| Neighborhood Planning & Revitalization/Design
The Office of Planning's Neighborhood Planning & Development/Urban Design Division has four major goals:
- Revitalize neighborhoods
- Restore economic health
- Create a world-class waterfront
- Encourage a diverse and dynamic downtown
The Neighborhood Planning & Development/Urban Design of OP focuses on two distinct areas: Neighborhood Strategic Planning and Economic Revitalization Planning.
Neighborhood Strategic Planning The goal of the Neighborhood Strategic Planning team is to work with District residents and businesses to craft practical plans for each of the District's 39 neighborhood clusters. This comprehensive initiative will build upon previous efforts to identify and confirm neighborhood priorities, develop new approaches, and take positive action. Coordination between neighborhood plans, more targeted revitalization efforts, and city-wide service improvements is key. The Neighborhood Planning Coordinators bring a variety of community planning and redevelopment skills to this initiative.
Economic Revitalization Planning The goal of the Economic Revitalization unit is to develop comprehensive strategies for large-scale development. Progressive planning, urban design, and community engagement are strongly emphasized. The Economic Revitalization Planners bring a multitude of skills and experience in urban design, real estate development, land use planning, architecture, and community engagement. Current projects include the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative, the Georgia Avenue Revitalization Plan, the East of the River Revitalization Plan, the Downtown Action Plan, and the NoMA Redevelopment Strategy.
